In February 2024, ARTguro took part in the important conversation of the value of the arts in education as a guest at the UNESCO’s World Conference on Culture and Art Education. At the UNESCO Side Event – Revitalizing arts education in global public schools: Evidence on the roadblocks and opportunities led by Samar Bandak and Dr. Heddy Lahmann, our founder Cathy Lasam Ballo joined other art education advocates from all over the world to talk about what is most needed in order to support arts education in our schools. Taking part in Dr. Lahmann’s research, she was also able to give further insight about our country’s specific context and needs in the field.
With the upcoming proposals to greatly reduce the arts in Philippine Basic Education, as well as in Higher Education, this research cannot come at a better time.
From Margins to Masterpieces: Charting Pathways to Strengthen Arts in Global Public Education, is a report commissioned by Community Arts Network and Community Arts Lab/Porticus led by researcher Dr. Heddy Lahmann. It identifies the challenges facing arts education, highlights key drivers of change, examines global advocacy efforts, and outlines strategic recommendations for integrating and reinvigorating arts into public education systems. The report is a call to action and offers a roadmap for strengthening arts education worldwide. A must-read for educators, policymakers, and advocates.

ARTguro is a member of the Community Arts Network! Learn more about how the arts can be engaged for social impact – it is a global platform that aims to enable, engage and empower individuals, organizations and communities through arts and unlikely alliances to generate meaningful change and shape a humane future, together.
